Generic Name: fosamprenavir (foss am PREN uh veer)

Safety Information


You should not take Lexiva with the following medications:

  • Cisapride (Propulsid)
  • Ergotamine (Ergostat, Cafergot, Ercaf, Wigraine)
  • Dihydroergotamine
  • Pimozide (Orap)
  • Midazolam (Versed)
  • Triazolam (Halcion)

If you are also taking Norvir with your Lexiva then you should not take flecainide (Tambocor) or propafenone (Rythmol) unless your doctor has told you to.

Get medical help immediately if you have any of the following signs of an allergic reaction: difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat.

Lexiva Side Effects


Consult a doctor and stop taking Lexiva if you develop any of the following serious side effects:

  • Red, blistering, peeling skin rash
  • Pale or yellowed skin
  • Dark colored urine
  • Fever
  • Confusion
  • Weakness

Keep using Lexiva and talk with you doctor if you have any of the following less serious side effects:

  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Headache
  • Symptoms of high blood sugar (increased thirst and urination)
  • Tired feeling
  • The redistribution of body fat

Other side effects not listed here may also occur.  Talk with your doctor about any symptom that seems unusual or bothersome.
     

Lexiva Contraindications


Inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medications:

  • Amiodarone (Cordarone)
  • Quinidine (Cardioquin, Quinidex, Quinaglute)
  • Lidocaine (Xylocaine)
  • Lovastatin (Mevacor, Altocor)
  • Simvastatin (Zocor)
  • St. John’s Wort
  • Amitriptyline (Elavil)
  • Nortriptyline (Pamelor)
  • Desipramine (Norpramin)
  • Imipramine (Tofranil)
    
Do not use this medication if you are allergic to ritonavir (Norvir), or if you are using any of the following drugs:

  • Astemizole (Hismanal)
  • Terfenadine (Seldane)
  • Cisapride (Propulsid)
  • Midazolam (Versed) or triazolam (Halcion)
  • Pimozide (Orap)
  • Ergotamine (Ergomar, Ergostat, Cafergot, Ercaf, Wigraine)
  • Dihydroergotamine (D.H.E. 45, Migranal Nasal Spray)
  • Ergonovine (Ergotrate)
  • Methylergonovine (Methergine).
