Safety Information You should not use Prezista with the following drugs:
- Astemizole (Hismanal)
- Terfenadine (Seldane)
- Cisapride (Propulsid)
- Pimozide (Orap)
- Midazolam (Versed)
- Triazolam (Halcion)
- Ergot Medicines such as dihydroergotamine, ergonovine, ergotamine
There may be other medications that can interact with Prezista. You should keep a detailed list of all prescription and over-the-counter products you use and discuss them with your doctor.
Taking Prezista will not prevent you from infecting other people through unprotected sex or sharing needles.
Get medical help immediately if you have any of the following signs of an allergic reaction: difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat.
Prezista Side Effects You should call your doctor right away if you experience any of the following serious side effects:
- Red, blistering, peeling skin rash
- Extreme thirst or increased urination
- Flu symptoms such as fever, chills, body aches
- Nausea, stomach pain, low fever, loss of appetite
- Dark urine or clay-colored stools
- Jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes)
- Swelling in the hands, feet, or ankles
- Fast heart rate
- Numbness or tingling
Continue to take Prezista and call your doctor if you experience any of the following less serious side effects:
- Redistribution of body fat (in the arms, legs, face, neck, breasts, waist)
- Stomach pain, bloating, loss of appetite
- Nausea, vomiting
- Constipation, diarrhea
- Mild itching or a skin rash
- Joint or muscle pain
- Night sweats, sleepiness
- Dry mouth
- Confusion, anxiety, mood changes
You may experience other side effects not listed here. You should talk to your doctor about any side effects that seem to be unusual or bothersome.
Prezista Contraindications The following drugs will interact with Prezista and should be discussed with your doctor before taking them:
- Atorvastatin (Lipitor), Lovastatin (Mevacor), Pravastatin (Pravachol), Simvastatin (Zocor), Cerivastatin (Baycol)
- Sildenafil (Viagra), Vardenafil (Levitra), Tadalafil (Cialis)
- St. John’s wort
- Rifabutin (Mycobutin), Rifampin (Rifamate, Rimactane, Rifater)
- Saquinavir (Invirase)
- Lopinavir/ ritonavir (Kaletra), indinavir (Crixivan), atazanavir (Reyataz), efavirenz (Sustiva), nevirapine (Viramune), tenofovir (Viread)
- Amiodarone (Cordarone, Pacerone), bepridil (Vascor), quinidine (Cardioquin, Quinidex, Quinaglute)
- phenytoin (Dilantin), carbamazepine (Carbatrol, Tegretol), phenobarbital (Luminal, Solfoton)
- Felodipine (Plendil), nicardipine (Cardene), nifedipine (Procardia, Adalat)
- Clarithromycin (Biaxin)
- Cyclosporine (Sandimmune, Neoral), tacrolimus (Prograf), sirolimus (Rapamune)
- Trazodone (Desyrel), paroxetine (Paxil), or sertraline (Zoloft
- Itraconazole (Sporanox), ketoconazole (Nizoral), or voriconazole (Vfend)
- Warfarin (Coumadin);
- Dexamethasone (Decadron, Hexadrol) or fluticasone (Flovent, Advair, Flonase)
- Omeprazole (Prilosec, Zegerid), ranitidine (Zantac)
- Methadone
- ethinyl estradiol and norethindrone (Aygestin, Estrostep, Loestrin, Modicon, Neocon, Nelova, Norinyl, Nor-QD, Ortho Micronor, Ortho-Novum 7/ 7/ 7, Ovcon, and others).
