Important Safety Information


There have been reports of fatal cases of lactic acidosis with the use of Reyataz along with reverse transcriptase inhibitors.  Symptoms of lactic acidosis are: fatigue, shortness of breath, weakness in muscles, persistent nausea, vomiting or stomach pain.  Contact your doctor immediately if you experience these symptoms.

Do not take the following drugs with Reyataz without first talking to your doctor:

Cisapride (Propulsid)
Primozide (Orap)
Ergotamine (Ergostat, Cafergot, Ercaf)
Dihydroergotamine (DHE 45)
Ergonovine, Methylergonogine
Midazolam (Versed)
Triamzolam (Halcion)  

Reyataz Side Effects


Stop taking Reyataz and contact your doctor if you experience the following side effects:

Unusual bleeding or bruising
Liver problems (jaundice, nausea, stomach pain fatigue)
Dizziness, light headed, irregular heartbeat
Increased blood sugar (more frequent urination, increased thrist), Fever

Continue to take Rayataz and contact your doctor if any of the following side effects happen:

Nausea, vomiting or diarrhea
Numbness and tingling in hands or feet
Joint pain, bone aches, muscle pain
Weakness, tiredness, dizziness
Insomnia
Headache
Depression
Cough
Skin rash
Redistribution of body fat

The following medications can change the effectiveness of Reyataz.  Make sure to talk with your doctor if you are taking:

cisapride (Propulsid)
ergotamine (Ergostat, Cafergot, Ercaf, Wigraine)
dihydroergotamine (D.H.E. 45)
ergonovine
methylergonogine (Methergine)
herbal or natural products containing St. John's wort
irinotecan (Campostar)
trazodone (Desyrel)
fluticasone (Flonase, Flovent, others);
lovastatin (Mevacor)
simvastatin (Zocor)
atorvastatin (Lipitor)
midazolam (Versed) or triazolam (Halcion)
pimozide (Orap)
quinidine (Cardioquin, Quinaglute, Quinidex, others)
lidocaine (oral or injectable)
amiodarone (Cordarone)
bepridil (Vascor)
rifampin (Rimactane, Rifadin, Rifater, Rifamate)
rifabutin (Mycobutin)
clarithromycin (Biaxin);
cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune)

a tricyclic antidepressant such as amitriptyline (Elavil), doxepin (Sinequan), desipramine (Norpramin), imipramine (Tofranil), and others

Any other HIV drugs such as Sustive, Invirase, Crixivan can also affect the amount of Reyataz in the body.
