What is Zerit?

Zerit is an antiviral drug used to treat HIV infection.  It is in a class of HIV drugs called reverse transcriptase inhibitors.  Zerit may also be used for other purposes other then treating HIV.

How does Zerit Work?

HIV works by infecting a cell and copying its genetic code to the cells DNA. This programs the cell to create new copies of HIV.  In order to do this, HIV has to convert its RNA into DNA.  It does this by using an enzyme called reverse transcriptase.  Viread works by introducing faulty building blocks used by HIV.  This prevents HIV from incorporating its genetic material into the cell and prevents the cell from producing new viruses.
